St Andrews Castle VR

Using VR to Access the Inaccessible

Following previous work with Historic Environment Scotland, this latest collaboration involved building an immersive experience for the wider public to access areas of St Andrews Castle that are now off limits due to safety concerns.

Using photogrammetry scans of the mines under the castle, this VR experience was built in Unity, allowing people to explore the series of caves and tunnels whilst immersive audio told the story of the battle that once took place there.

The experience was available to the general public and was built form the ground up to be accessible to novice and experienced VR users, allowing them to digitally explore one of HES’ most popular sites in a new light.
