Stirling XP

The world’s first fully Augmented Reality city

City Scale AR

Stirling XP provides immersive AR interactions all over the city, guiding participants around historic trails and highlighting stories from Stirling’s past that most would be unaware of. Users can discover new parts of the city, inspect them in greater detail and obtain digital collectables that they can view on their device after their visit.

Geospatial API

Leveraging Google’s Geospatial API allows the application to place 3D content at precise points in real world space. Previous technologies only allowed for within a 10m radius but this latest advancement builds on Google’s Street View data and GPS technology, to establish large numbers of individual tracking points, allowing for far more engaging experiences. Due to this breakthrough, Stirling XP was able to provide many surprise and delight moments throughout the city.

Boosting Tourism

One of the key goals of the project was to encourage visitors to explore more of the city and spend more time in Stirling. This led to the application bringing together some of Stirling’s key tourist attractions such as Stirling Castle, Stirling Bridge and The Wallace Monument, with the aim of getting tourists to explore all three instead of in the past where they may have only toured Stirling Castle.
